Greetings to all,
I have a beautiful hybrid honey locust ( no thorns) standing in my back yard, very close to my house. It is heaving up the ground near the foundation and sadly, I have decided to cut it down. The heart wood of this tree is a wonderful brown color not unlike chessnut. I want to have the tree cut into lumber for future woodworking projects and need to know what time of year would be best to have it done. Also, should the log be sawn when it is first felled or after it has aged? Any feedback would be apreciated.

i have honey locust on my farm. The trees are really junk IMO. They crack and split at the slightest wind. The wood has a distinct odor. Jon arno can probably give more insight, but the wood doesnt hold up to rot and isnt all that strong.
If they are worth something to woodworkers, hell come cut mine down and you can have them :)
