This morning the electrician showed up at 8 am and by 11:30 was finished. The work performed: In my two car garage he installed two circuits for 4 110v outlets–one over the bench on the back wall; one on each side wall and one on the center of the ceiling for a retractable power cord. In addition he also installed 5 4′ light fixtures with electronic ballasts and T8 bulbs. Two fixtures were in the left front of the ‘shop’ over the bench, two more in the right front and one additional one in the left middle of the shop/garage. It’s great to be able to see and power up tools. Previously, all I had was one outlet on the back wall low, and one 60w bulb in the middle of the garage. This is a vast improvement. Tom

Tom,
Good light and power is one thing I do take for granted. Not you though! It's nice to be able to see what you are doing sometimes. Then again, I've seen some work that I could only tolerate in the dark.

That's great.
Without proper lighting, it's best to have 0 outlets, so tools can't be powered up inadvertently. ;-)
Nah, I think that sight is overrated. I may have overstated that last sentence.

You don't know how jealous I am. Currently, my shop is an improvised nightmare that consists of many extension cords for the tools and a couple worthless CFLs. I have a non-woodworking "real" job, so my time in the shop is limited to evenings. It wasn't so bad when it stayed light after 3:00. Now, it's gotten so bad that I've resorted to wearing an LED headlamp in the shop. Something tells me I need a lesson on shop safety.
