I am building a toolbox using walnut for the carcase and mahogany for the trim. The subject of finishing is coming upon me and i havent a good idea. Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone out there have any ideas for locating a copy of the fine woodworking cd that was avilabloe but isnt now? I am in college, at 47 (DUDE) and taking woodworking classes and this would be avery helpful resource….needless to say

If were to build a toolbox I'd finish it with an oil/varnish blend like Watco. Much easier to keep it looking nice than with any film finish.

We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing; and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency, and demoralization.

I use WATCO ALOT.. I like it because a 'fix' is really easy... Scotch pad it and re-do a wipe.. NO it's not iron but works well.. AND easy to fix up!
You might want to repost your query on the Finishing Forum. Click on Skills & Techiques about then on Finishing.
The FWW CD, as well as lots of stuff that has been written since then is apparently now available in the Members Only section of this site. They do have a one month subscription if you want to take a test drive.
thanks wrudiger. it sounds like a good excuse (like i needed one) to get membership. thanks for the info and input
I agree with the suggestions of a Watco style finish. You can make your own--equal parts BLO,mineral spirits, and varnish. Wipe it on and wipe it off--a few coats.
thanks for the help Gretchen, it is appreciated.
