That's a pretty broad question. There are several pieces of information that are needed. How large is the piece of furniture? (assuming that you're shipping furniture) UPS, US Postal Service, FedEx will all ship packages anywhere, but it ultimately depends on the mass and size of the package. I shipped a piece of furniture to my brother from Minneapolis to the L.A. area a couple of years ago. The piece was too heavy for the the above mentioned carriers. I don't remember which carrier I used, but it cost in the $240 range to send, with insurance. I even looked into Amtrack, but their methods of insuring that the package would arrive in a timely manner left something to be desired. My best advice would be to scan through the yellow pages, call several places and make a decision based on price and your confidence that they'll get the package to the intended destination intact.
Sorry, kind of vague.

Thanks Kurt,
It is a desk, 25x42. After I box it the weight will be about 80lbs. It's value or cost is $2,700
I've never shipped anything as large as that but I've shipped some tables that were about half as large. I used the local Mailboxes, etc. They take care of packing and shipping. It was no hassle for me and the pieces got there in perfect condition.
Caution, these are franchises and you may not get the same quality control at all locations.
Good luck!

I use freightpro. (http://www.freightpro.com) Unlike most moving companies, they're willing to take shipments that aren't a complete houseful. Unlike most freight companies, they're easy to work with, and offer good rates. They do expect you to crate your furniture, which I strongly recommend -- your best insurance is a good crate. If you don't want to build your own crate, your Yellow Pages will find you companies that will crate and ship your furniture for you, for a substantial price.
I've used Craters and Freighters in the past, on the recommendation of several other furniture makers, and have had no problems. The deliveries were on time, and the items were packed tight. Most franchises also offer pickup services. Here's a link, to see if there's a franchise near you:
