Ideal height for a grinding wheel
I am going to mount a grinding wheel motor on a post I have and want some impute on about how high I should have it mounted. My post now is 36 inches and the center of the grinding wheel is 7 inches above the base. 43+- inches total seems a bit high. Any impute would be appreciated.

larry,
most standard heights of stuff are uncomfortably low for me and when bent that way, i feel some sort of pain. i tend to look closely at what it is i'm grinding so don't like to be too hunched over. i do a good deal of buffing at the wheel...
i guess for me it is what's comfortable.

You are right in that most grinding wheels are too low. 31 inches seems to be a height for the pedistals that are sold. I think I am going to cut mine at 33 or 34 inches.
Larry:
It's a grinding wheel
Larry:
It's a grinding wheel for christsakes. Mount it any height that is comfortable for you.
How long do you expect to be grinding for anyway?

I will grind anything that needs to be sharpened. Chisles, planes and mower blades.
I'm not sure what you're
I'm not sure what you're grinding. If it's chisels and plane irons, I want good visibility of the tool looking down a little at the cutting edge. One of the best investments we've made in our shop recently is adjustable height grinding stands. We bought the last one of the three we have from Amazon and you can find the "HTC HGP-10 Bench Grinder Stand" there with a search. While the stands appear rather flimsy in images they're really quite stable and solid. For me they've changed grinding from a dreaded pain in the back to something a lot more pleasant but we do a lot of grinding in our shop.
I may look around for some square tube and make mine adjustable. That is if I can find some square tube that will fit inside of my stand.
So the Sparks do not fly into your face?
Safety glasses and the shield will keep the sparks out of my face.
