Ideal speed in feet per minute for resawing with bandsaw
What is the ideal speed range in ft/sec to resaw hardwood 4-8 inches wide with a bandsaw?
Blade 3-4 teeth per inch? 3/8″ to 1/2″ wide blade?
Thanks

I resaw everything from 1/2 inch to just over 12 inches with a 1/2 inch 3-4 tooth skiptooth or variable pitch blade. I honestly don't know what the speed is-- the saw only has one speed, as do most woodcutting bandsaws.
Works great for me.
If you are talking about how fast to feed the wood, it's very dependent on saw power, blade sharpness, and species of wood, but the saw will tell you if you are feeding too fast. It will start to bog down, you may start to get a lot of sawdust on top of the piece you are feeding (because it's packing hard in the blade gullets and not falling out right below the piece), or the blade may start to deflect (bow out or in). If you go too slow, the blade may heat up and you may get burning, but generally too slow is better than too fast.
Good advice. I recently got too exuberant feeding a tall, green bowl blank using a blade with too many teeth (about 6TPI) and really overheated the poor blade. For some reason the blade de-tensioning lever released, I stopped the saw leaving the hot blade stationary on the urethane tires. It melted onto the tires, adhering tightly. I ended up destroying both the tires and the blade (not worth cleaning). With new tires, I'm much more mindful of blade type and feed speed. Pretty embarrassing.
The hand feed rate is important too, but what I have in mind first is the speed of the blade.
My band saw has four speeds, top two are about 1700 and 2600 feet per min. Which is better for resawing 4-8 inches? The slower speeds are 600 and 1100 feet/min.
Thanks
Do you need a motor upgrade to resaw 12 inches?
Or would 1-hp be enough? Some saws have weaker motor like only 3/4 hp but mine is 1-hp
Thanks
