How many of you WW enthusiasts, pros and amatures ever think “shellac” as a natural resource may one day out of supply when the lacs stop producing it. Is there any effort to breed the bugs ?

As long as they, and the trees they live in can be moved to higher ground and further from the equator in time to beat global warming, there should be ample supplies forever!

With so much development squeezing out wildlife worldwide, it's difficult to predict what will happen to any species, let alone the lac bug.

Yup, the common thane (polyurill thanitall) beetle is endemic to urban N America, especially near big-box hardware stores, don't have to import 'em.
