I’m back–though I won’t flatter myself by thinking anyone noticed I was gone.
Anyway, two days before Christmas I was up in the night and on my way back to bed when I suddenly found myself on the floor, with a lot of pain in my right lower leg–that had a new bend in it just below the knee. 911, paramedics, ambulance ride, ER… It turns out I am an anomaly: I’m a middle aged man with “severe” osteoporosis–I have the bones of an elderly and decrepit woman. I had fractured–or “splintered” according to the ER doc–my right tibia and fibula.
For too long I had no access to a computer and so I couldn’t visit this site and all of you. I then realized how much I enjoy this site and all the people who participate. Now that I’m home I can catch up with all the goings on around here (and elsewhere). Spending some time with all of you will make my convalescent time pass more swiftly. TIA.

If nothing sticks to Teflon, how does Teflon Stick to metal. Huh
Glad to hear you're recovering. Hope it goes well. Oh well, if you have nothing better to do, might as well stick around in here. (It IS a great place to spend time) Here's praying for a quick mending.
Well Alan - there are SOOooo many good people here it's easy for someone to be over looked BUT so glad to hear you're recuperating. Hope it won't be long til you're back in your shop and well mended. They do great things for osteo in women - I'm sure the treatment won't make your voice higher!

Sorry to hear about your situation, but I hope you have a rapid recovery and get back to your shop soon!
Eric
Thanks to all for the good vibes. I appreciate it very much.

Jeff had a good idea. Could you hide a dove-tail saw under your pillow? You could tell your wife (if you're married?) that the saw-dust is just those fine particles of cracker crumbs you couldn't extract from the sheets. Chest of drawer tops make an excellent work-bench in a pinch, BTW. ha.. ha...
Welcome back and speedy recovery...

Sarge,
what we should do is go over to Alan's place and lower his bench so he can work from a wheel chair whilst he recuperates. Sound to me like to good opportunity for Alan to practice hand cut joints ;-)
If that looks too difficult (eg Alan needs to negotiate a lot of steps to get into his shop) we could always set up one of YOUR benches in his living room or kitchen.

Sounds like a winner as the bench can be made available. I could have a custom one for him if I took a weeks vacation. And there's always the option of going Japanese and work from those little sawed off things down on the floor. I am fortunate that I can still get down that low and not grunt when I do. Still, I prefer working from a standing position. You can get moving quicker in case one of those "swat" teams shows up looking for you. ha.. ha...

Glad to see you're still arround, even f the SWAT teams are chasing you. One of the stories on the news today was about a man on a commuter flight into Ronald Reagan who alledgedly tried to hijack the plane to Australia. I immediately thought of you !

"I immediately thought of you".
All I can say is "it was just a mis-under-standing". People have a hard time understanding my southern U.S. accent and can sometimes mis-interpret. Besides, only wild and crazy kind of guys do that kind of stuff. ha.. ha.. ha..ha..ha..

Alan,
Best of luck for a speedy recovery! Not sure if you're bored yet, but if so, this may be a good time to practice your carving skills. Perhaps a small board with a couple clamps to hold the work down and some small scraps of soft wood....
God bless,
Jeff
Sorry about your mishap, I hope you will be up and at em soon. Welcome back.
