This is to Roc and every one else who gave me input and the encouragement to give it a go. Remember me…. Very rough grained 12mm Ausssie plywood…. making a doll house for my granddaughter? Well with you’re help I’ve achieved what I set out to do. I achieved the perfect smooth finish I was seeking.
After all of my trials and errors. I got the best result using ‘Timbermate’. I watered it down to the consistency of a thick batter. Applied it to the wood with a cake icing spatula, working it into the grain. I then scraped off the excess with a 4″ stainless steel scraper, working diagonal to the grain. I found this didn’t rip it back out of the grain. I let it dry and set for a full 48 hours then sanded it lightly using 320 paper. I then repeated this whole process two more times. I left this alone for a week to fully harden and set. I gave it a final light sand with 320 paper and then sprayed it with a good quality undercoat followed by two coats of acrylic paint. The finish is superb. I am very pleased with myself and has left hubby agog. He couldn’t believe I went to so much trouble for a doll house. But he’s impressed too.
Just thought I’d get back to you. Thanks again and happy woodworking.
Cheers

That's a gorgeous surface !
I am glad you reached your goal.
If you get a chance post more pics of the finished doll house.
Doll house.
Hi Roc,
Thanks. I didn't actually say I had finished the doll house. All was going well til I began hanging the main doors.Three went well but the fourth I had cut 20mm too narrow. Not happy. Then it began all over again.I had to cut a new one, filling, sanding etc. I had to order more wallpaper from USA, 4 weeks delivery. This door had a double hung window and a bay window and architraves that I had to remove without damaging them.I hadn't finished the roof either so while I waited for the wallpaper I continued with the roof only to find I didn't have enough shingles. So I've had to order them from the states too. Needless to say I didn't meet my deadline. My granddaughters birthday has been and gone. So it will be a belated gift. Not to worry. I will however post pictures when it is done; should be two weeks on the outside. I'll get there.
Thanks again Roc for your advise and I'll keep you posted. Have a great day

Pics for Roc
Hi Roc,
Here are some pics of my finished doll house. I made the kitchen fridge, cupboard and stove, with still more to make. I also made the mirrored built in wardobe in the main bedroom. Hope you like it.
