I’m looking for some help with the repair of a Victor Bailey plane and wondered if anyone knows a good tool site.
I’v posted this many times and still have a plane I’d like to re-build the adjuster in. Adjuster is missing and I think I could re-build it if I knew how it worked. I’v looked for one of these nickel plated planes but I think they are scarce in my area. I’v attached a photo showing the rear view of the frog. Thanks for your help.

Hi Joe
Can you show more pictures of the broken area ... there should not any mystery about a fix.
On the other hand, the mystery for me is that the plane is nickel-plated - I do not know of any of the bench planes that were treated thus. That is not to say this one is not original, just that I cannot find a reference to such a plane. There is a Type 1 #5 on eBay at this time, and you could contact teh Seller for more images ..

Bailey plane help
Thanks Derek for the help and link, I'll take some more shots of the plane and send later. Yes the victor Bailey is nickel plated and is like the one on ebay but larger and the lever cap is interesting. It has a lever connected to a threaded post that puts pressure down on the chip breaker( I'll send a pic of that when I find my camera. I don't think anything is broken on the plane I think the whole adjuster assembly is just missing. As I said in my post I think I could make one if I knew what it looks like. The way I use this plane now is as a large jack/jointer. I put a Holtey iron in it and just knock it up to adjust like my wooden planes. Problem is you can't hit the butt to withdraw the iron, I have to bang it on the bench. It's a pretty sweet plane though and I rarely use my jointer because of it.

Hey Derek,
Here are the photos, I hope they work to get the picture of what I'm up against.

Hi Joe
The frog on your plane ...
<img src="http://i829.photobucket.com/albums/zz218/chairman007/victor%20bailey%20plane%202010/th_005.jpg">
.. looks similar to the early Bailey Type 2 or 3 frog as well as the frog on the Stanley #51 shooting board. Here is a picture of a modern #3 with the #51 and the Type 3 ...

This drops over the ledge and is bolted on...

Thanks for the pix. I have quite a few planes in the stanley bailey, bedrock and even some rare stuffed british planes here to view but this one is different as you may be able to see in the photos because the chipbreaker has a rect. hole with rounded ends for a nut that is bolted to the iron and the iron has 1/8" holes that I suppose is attached to the adjuster and advanced or retracted that way. I dont know if you can see that the frog is one piece with the plane body and not like the later design. The adjuster somehow works with this hole in the frogs wall. I still need to see this earlier plane I think, if I'm missing something obvious it won't be the first time.
Regards,
Joe
