I’m new here and joined after my older brother suggested looking here for ideas on a project that I’m working on. The idea is a pretty basic hope chest for an FFA competition. If you have any suggestions, they are more than welcome. Thanks!

The fastest and least expensive start for most things is the Public Library. Even if you do not know exactly what you are looking for most libraries have someone that can help you dig it out.
Back issues of FWW have plans for a few different kinds of chests. So, if your library subscribes they may have those available for you. I am sure that others here will have some great ideas and help to offer you. Good luck with your project:)
Mike Dunbar did a colonial style chest that he used handtools on a few years back in a Fine Woodworking article. I don't what your skill level or your tool preference is but it looked fairly easy to make using hand or power tools. He used white pine and nailed it together.
Just another homeowner...
I'll have to look into it. I'm not very skilled, I'm still have a lot to learn. But I know many people in the cabinet making/woodworking business. My older brother started me into it a couple of years ago and since then we've built a desk and some smaller cabinet projects.
