Will: I'm waiting for the roofer to redo my shop roof so I can get the plastic sheeting off of things, clean up the shop and get to it. It has not been a very productive winter for me even here in the "Mediterranean" S.F. Bay area. Were having record rain all last month and so far in April. It has actually been below 50! :)

no kidding, 23 days of rain in March is making SF feel like Seattle.
over here in the lincoln, ca area.....little east of sacramento...
What is the deal here!?!?!? All I want to do is mow my lawn! So I get up this morning, look at the report and its still the same.....rain. and tomorrow, rain, and through saturday, rain.....and oh ya, until the following wednesday, ya, rain. I mean, sure, it's great if your a duck, but last time I checked, I havent molted lately.......
I feel so bad for you!!! I only finished shoveling the last of the snow off my driveway last week. My grass is still under about a foot of snow.
I'll trade a tornado for a snow storm!
You don't want a tornado. I live in east central Il. and we had 16 tornados last Monday night. Snow will melt, eventually. I'm waiting to fix a couple of basement windows. I have to add a row of concrete block and it's too cold for the morter to cure properly. In the meantime I'm completely reorganizing the garage. I built a lumber storage rack and enclosed some floor to ceiling shelves. When I get everything done in the garage it'll probably get hit by a tornado.
I'm ready. I moved to St. Louis in Oct and with the tornados from this past week-end, i'm ready to go directly to summer. Parts of the neighbors house was in my front yard. I guess it goes with the territory.
Snowing here in glorious Woodville!
Parts of the neighbors house was in my front yard..Did you salvage the wood? lol.. Not funny if it's your roof! Or Door!
Nothing special, cheap facia boards. Missed the Caddy by a few feet. Another round is hitting us right now. People insist that I brought this with me when I moved here. I don't recall to many tornadoes in the mountains of VA. I kinda know what a rabbit feels like. Weather comes, you go in a hole and come out when it's over. They say you get use to it, but It aint happened yet. Take care.
Thanks to all for reminding me why I moved to Vegas. We've been waiting for it to warm up a bit.
Finally topped 80 degrees on Tuesday this week, almost rained Wednesday, today sunny and 62. Did I mention that the humidity is at 18%? Haven't seen a speck of rust on my tools since I moved here (from Plymouth, MA) three years ago.
Show girls are much easier on the eye than Pilgrims.
Very envious here in WA. Rust is a never ending battle. Was in Vegas twice last year, late Jan. for Metabo's show and then in the summer for AWFS. Had a great time and very much enjoyed both shows and the town. Even managed to sample a variety of solvents at the casinos !! I'm not at all sure if I could deal with the summertime temps without A/C in the shop. How is the cost of living, power, water etc? Availability of wood other than liquor pallets?
Desert living does have some downsides. Everything is trucked in, so prices tend to be a little on the high side. We moved here from Plymouth, MA so there was no real change in the general cost of living. Housing prices have run up significantly over the past few years. Median home somewhere around $330K, changing daily. We still add about 5,000 new residents each month, so this is a growth town.
Don't have A/C in my shop, but I'm a hobbyist so I can adjust my schedule to the cooler times of day. During the summer months, there are many nights when the overnight temp does not drop below 90F, but that still leaves a few hours in the morning before the temp gets much over 100F. Stay in the shade and 105F can be comfortable.
I've found some great wood suppliers locally. With all the construction going on, there is a great demand for finish work, so there is a great supply of finish grade materials. I just read in the paper that the number of >$1M homes is increasing dramatically, which seems to be increasing the demand for high end materials and increasing their availability to the hobbyist.
Living in the entertainment capital of the world sure makes it easy to find something to do when work is done. Its not a matter of what to do, its a matter of which to do.
This is the fifth state we've lived in in thirty years, and so far, its a blast!!
what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
There are things in Vegas that I'm much more addicted to than woodworking... The Crazy Horse Too would start garnishing my wages, and I'd end up hocking my tools and selling my truck to support my addiction to the "arts"... :-)
