I am working on this walnut and oak vanity-dresser type thing for my daughter’s birthday and have this question: What would be the best way to attach the oak drawer carcasse to the upside down “L-shaped” walnut top/side? (See attached). I was thinking to use loose tenons to tie the oak base under the drawers to the sides and to tie the oak back board to the walnut. The vertical oak side board will also have loose tenons (3 ea) at the top and bottom, but with no glue, just for alignment. The oak side is dovetailed to the drawer carcasse which will all be screwed to the walnut side and top. This is the root of the question. Would it be better to tie the carcasse to the walnut with glue, as a lamination since all of the grain will be going the same way? The only grain perpendicular to the main body is at the carcasse base and the drawer runners, which are not done yet.
Any comments are appreciated, thanks.
