I’m about to have my workshop framed and am considering the option of having an in wall air conditioning unit. If I can decide on a unit now while framing I’ll have a header installed for later installation. Does anyone in climate similar to north Texas have experience with an in wall AC unit?
Thanks,
Stuart

mini-split an option
Stuart,
I live in northern Illinois. Occasionally we have a few days each summer that is probably close to what you experience in Texas. I added a mini-split airconditioner years after I built my shop. I have a 1200 sq foot, very well insulated shop. The mini-split was very easy to install and I did most of the work myself. I did hire a professional to vacuum the lines and make the final connection. I'm extremely pleased with the result. If you google "mini-split air conditioners" you'll find lots of options.
Good luck,

Air conditioner
Dear Stuart,
I too live in North Texas, Southlake to be specific. My shop consists of one bay of a 3 car garage, separately walled off, so it's about 200 sq ft. I installed a Frigidaire combination heating and air conditioning unit, purchased at Lowes for about $400 and rated at 7000BTU. It has proven to be sufficient for all my needs, though the heater needs a little help on the coldest days. One word of warning, however. You must have strong dust control or you will quickly clog the air conditioner vanes. I ruined my first unit. But since I get serious about dust control, my second unit has worked well. Good luck, Richard
