I Know that Garrett Wade no longer stocks Inca machines. Has anyone any info on spare parts? I am thinking of buying and 570 planer/jointer at an estate sale.
Probably get it very cheap.
Cheers

I would suggest you call GW and try to get someone there who can give you some definitive info on parts availability. All I got (from the phone rep) was that "we'll stock parts until they run out."
The 570 uses the "Tersa" brand blades, and they are expensive (about $100 for a set, which contains three blades). They have a cheaper set, but I would not recommend them. I assume you know they are double-sided disposables.
I noticed recently that MiniMax is selling a planer/jointer that also uses Tersa blades, so it may be possible that you can get them from some source other than GW.
Assuming that the motor/switch, fence, blade guard, and dust collection hood are in good working order with the machine you are considering, the only other thing you might consider ordering now from GW would be a set of belts (there are two, and they are not expensive).
The guts of the machine (needle bearings, gears, and the like) seem to be sturdy -- but I would take off the housing at the sale and see what they look like. Even if the sale machine was poorly maintained, the chances are you will just have to clean them up and relube (white lithium grease).
I have had mine for maybe 15 years, and I can tell you it is a wonderful machine.
So, good luck, and if you do buy it, I would be very interested to know what price it went for.
Nikkiwood,
Martin USA sells Tersa knives of all sizes, more than likly you can find the size for the Inca, they stock the size for my MM FS-41 of 410mm. The url for Martin is http://www.martin-usa.com/t_tersa.asp, the knives come in a package of two knives per package
Thanks -- much. They certainly have a broad range of sizes; but I'll have to find out the metric measure for the Inca blades.
