There is a little blurb in the new FWW#159 on the Incra Miter 5000 sled. Does anyone have any feedback after using it? It looks like a nice set-up, but I have no experience with Incra.
Thanks… Jack

The 5000? Oh, you lucky dog! I have the 1000, and it works like a dream, incredibly well made, so that's my .02 on Incra in general. It'll be interesting to see if anyone here has the 5000.

Hello Jack,
I have been using the Incra 5000 for over a year. It is accurate and makes cross cutting panels up to about 25"W fairly easy. I personally don't use the integrated rule because I feel it can be slid out of adjustment too easily and I tend to cut to the marked line on the piece. The included Flip Stop is nice when doing limited production runs but I find the teeth on the fence to be more of a hinderance than a help. One thing I have noticed is that you have to be careful when you loosen the outboard holdown. When you retighten it you can torque the fence out of square. I do like the fence extention piece. It allows you to set the stop pretty far to the left (don't remember the exact length). The 5000 comes with a hold down bracket that I have used a few times. It works OK but I find that it can dent the wood (depending on the species). Like most sleds storage is a bit of an issue.
If I were in the market today I would probably build my own cross cut sled and purchase an after market miter gauge like the Bench Dog Miter Loc.
Attached is a picture of the unit on my saw.
Being left handed, I prefer to work on the right side of the blade. Is it possible to flip the set-up so the protractor head and sled are on the right side of the blade instead of the left?
Hello Jack,
You ask a good question. My initial answer would be no. It is designed to be used from the left hand miter slot only. It seems to me that the mounting holes for the miter head would prevent you from switching sides. For a more definitive response you might try contacting WoodPeckers.
The new Miter 5000 does have the ability to move to
either left or right side of the blade. The change was made just a couple of weeks ago. Hope this helps.

Jack, at the WWing show I came across a sled called the "Dubby Cutoff Fixture" by In-Line Industries. It looks like a solid tool, with good adjustability and integrated angle scale, fence extension, etc. I think Ron Teti uses one (Ron?).
Not high-tech and shiny like the Incra though :-)
It runs $159.95. I've never been to their website but the address is:

Yep that was me. I got one and love it. The inline people are great, helpful and courteous. In fact, delta, and couple others have quasi copied the design enough to get out of the patent laws, I swear by it.
At Darkworks cut to size made to burn......Putty isnt a option
Jack,
Look at the price of the Incra 5000, then compare it to a Grizzly or Excalibur sliding miter table. Is it really worth the money?
Jeff
Hello........
I replaced my Dubby with the 5000 about a year ago. It is, in my opinion, very well designed and worth every cent. It is heavy, however, and care needs to be taken when removing and rereinstalling on the TS.....cheers, mark
