Incra Rules on sale this week – General?
Woodcraft is advertising Incra rules as their weekly sale, including a T-rule I’ve wanted for a long time. However, the title says “Incra/General Rules” — what’s this? My woodcraft catalog seems to be MIA, so no help there. See this page at Woodcraft. The few General measuring devices I’ve picked up over the years have been far less than satisfactory, so I’m hesitant. Anyone have inside info?

That web page is a bit odd, but I'm wondering if the "/General" portion of the title is just because there are other links on that page to take you to the non-Incra rules? None of the rulers on those other pages specifically says "General" so I'm just guessing. All of the Incra rules just say Incra in the description and not "Incra/General" but the fact that Woodcrafts prices say "Closeout" also leaves you wondering a bit. Those are great deals at half off. I've got the 3", 6", and 12" T-rules and their protractor and like them a lot. By far though, the one that sees the most use in my shop is the 3" (Tiny T) that unfortunately isn't one of the ones on sale.
Waddaya mean it wont fit through the door?
Hey Jamie,
My "General" rules arrived yesterday from woodcraft. I bought the 6" t-rule for myself since I already have the 12" incra and I bought a 6" & 12" for my brother for christmas. They are the exact same as the incra rules, but they are marked general on the rule and package. According to woodcraft, the packaging is a little damaged, which it was, mostly wrinkled cardboard. Also, they all came with a general mechanical pencil enclosed in the package. Except 1 package, in which the pencil was MIA. A great value, they appear to be exactly the same as the incra. Probably produced under license from incra. I did find one thing a bit odd, some of the packs definitely came from a Sears store, they had the yellow & black price tag just like you see on Sears merchandise. Maybe these were made for distrubition in Sears stores. Who knows. I would definitely recommend them to anyone, and woodcraft has a very liberal return policy as well, they will even refund your postage if you return the entire order.

I've always wondered...Who's the Tool Doc and how/where does one rock with him?
ToolDoc was a Knots buddy -- Sarge, ToolDoc and I were a raucous trio at one time. He passed away a couple of years ago. Sarge created the tag line, but he's not hangin' out here any more. I may lay it to rest at the end of this year.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

Sarge has another hobby that he's very active in and has switched his attention to that, last I heard. I'm a little concerned about his email no longer working, I hope he's OK! Maybe someone has been in contact?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)

I got an email from Woodcraft, and yes they were made by Incra, but didn't sell out so Woodcraft bought them up. I may just go for it! (If it's still going).

For what it's worth, I own both of the t-square models, and I love them. Great layout tool. Just chuck the mechanical pencil they provide and get a Pentel 0.5 mechanical pencil.
I'm really bummed, that special is over! I've really been wanting the T-rule.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
If it makes any difference, my father has the General version, and the difference is barely noticable. Good luck! It could be an early stocking stuffer to yourself.
I got a response back from Woodcraft, and these General items were indeed made by Incra but stamped "General." They were out of the big T-rule by the time I regained consciousness, LOL, but I did order the 6" T-rule.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
What is it about the General measuring devices you find lacking?
In essence, any type of measuring rule, for linear measuring that is, should be adequate so long as you use it and it alone for any given single project. So long, that is, that the end product doesn't have to fit between two previously measured objects that were measured with a different device. It's all relatve, according to Al(bert).

I think the main one I had an "issue" with was a protractor that seems pretty off. There was something else, a long time ago, but I'm having trouble remembering what it was....uh oh......forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
