Does anyone know anything about Indonesian Mahogany? The local New and Used store has wood that they are calling Ind. Mah. Looks like the wood was used for dunnage or pallets. I’m not familiar with the name; I’m wondering if it’s the same as Philippian Mahogany. The wood is heavy and ranges in color from tan to a reddish purple color. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Lotta people will probably tell you this, but it could be any one (or even several) of a wide range of tropical species that all look about the same!

Thanks,
I have since read a thread regarding what I believe is the same wood I am dealing with. Sounds like it is Meranti. At a buck a square foot it sounds like a good deal.

Meranti, luan ... and a dozen other names. It can be OK, and as you say, at the right price!New Zealand | New Thinking
