Hello, I’m trying to find information on building mission picture frames. Of course I’ve found plenty on building the furniture, but not specific on frames. I’d like info on tools, mortise & tenon joinery as well as finish. Has anyone used 25% ammonia? If so, where did you buy it? I know it’s really nasty stuff.
Thanks, Jim

Outside of specific A&C design factors, there's very little specific to picture frame construction that isn't common to other general woodworking: accurate miter joints, through tenons and rabbeting of the back. If you're looking for designs I'd do a web search and look for plans. This frame is sort of based on a mission design I found on the web (don't remember where); pegged through tenons with arched top. View Image I dunno how other people do it, but with this kind of frame I find it better to use a rabbeting bit in a router for the rabbet in the back; if you use a dado blade to cut the rabbets in the members before assembly, you'll end up with grooves on the members where they extend past their intersections.
