Inherited Table | Lost Fasteners/Screws
Hello everyone,
I hope my post doesn’t break any rules, but I need some assistance and thought I’d reach out to the pros.
My brother recently passed away and left me some possessions; one of them being a dining table.
Unfortunately, it’s missing some of the parts, specifically the “screws/fasteners”. I am uneducated in regards to what fasteners I need to mount the top to the base.
I have posted a link of a few pictures in hope that someone can point me in the right direction to reattach both pieces together.
Thank you for reading and any input provided,
Adam.

I'm guessing that you need 4 - 1"x #12 x 24 machine screws.
In most cases the tops are attached to the rails by wood screws. If this is the case the rails will have pre drilled screw holes in them. These screws will be of a length they would not protrude through the top surface. Their are other and better ways to attach the top so without going to your side link to look, for reasons of suspect this is a guess.
Try #12 x 24 threads per inch machine screws (not wood screws) --They look like bolts except they have a screw driver type head on them. Any length will do. No need to actually put the top on the base. Just check to see if they thread easily into those metal nuts that are embedded in the rails. If they do, then all you need to determine is the length. I think that the 1 inch length suggested by user-283348 would be a little too short. Buy 1 of several lengths from HD, put the top on and see which is the longest that will tighten before bottoming out in the hole. You'll know the correct length from which you can buy 3 more.
But as I said, the first thing is to determine the correct diameter/thread. They could be 1/4 inch, 20 threads per inch
Thanks for the input guys.
I'll go to HD in the next week or so to have a look.
I will continue to update with progress.
Adam.
I'm not sure that you're "missing" anything.
Your first picture shows 4 bolts sticking up out of the base, with nuts and washers.
Your 4th picture shows the bottom side of the top with the leaf in.
Then your 5th and 6th picture show a close up of the table bottom with a nut buried into a rail attached to the table top.
I'd guess that the nuts shown in the first picture were put there just so you wouldn't lose the bolts. If you remove the nuts, and collapse the table top, can you then, from under the table, turn the bolts into the "captured" nuts?
@TGY
I thought the same thing, but it's not the case. I removed the nuts and washers, but the bolts don't move. I can then remove the the unfinished wood and the bolts stay stationary.
These four bolts connect the two pieces that are currently connected.
The fasteners you are needing may actually be metric and not a standard "US" thread size.
I bet you're right about the fasteners being metric. Thanks for the input. I haven't had time to check this out as other priorities have come first. I'll keep ya'll posted. Thanks!
