So, I am going to be making a crokinole game board. For the lines on the face, I was thinking of using the CNC router and making grooves maple top with a small engraving bit. Then using a dark wood filler such as walnut to fill in for the lines. The finish on top is typically Laquer if memory is correct for a low friction finish.
Would this work sufficiently or should I go about this another direction?

It's an easy inlay option. A lot easier than cutting thin little pieces and getting them flush, etc.
I have a commercially made piece in the shop for refinishing now that was done in a similar fashion. I think it's some kind of epoxy, but I don't know for sure yet.
