The Toolbox Book by Jim Tolpin has an inlay on Page 22 that I would like to know how to do. The inlay is the initials “T K” on an inlay of birds eye maple and blood wood. I would appreciate any help I can get on doing that very impressive work.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Dovetailer.
It looks as though was done as a marquetry inlay.
Basically, the inlay is produced by cutting out pieces of veneer and assembling them like puzzle pieces and then applying them to a shallow mortise in the workpiece. The shallow mortise is cut out with either a small router, a dremel tool, or a chisel (or a combination of).
This article walks through the process of creating the marquetry. This article walks through the process of inlaying the marquetry. You might also browse some of the other articles in our category on Veneering and Inlay.
