I have a request from a client that I can’t figure out how to help. He has a storage cabinet that has 2X8 stiles and he wants two fully inset doors that sit at the backside of the 2X8 with hidden hinges. My question is does the hinge exist that will work? Everything I try to come up with has the side of the door binding with the 2X8 when opening since it is not flush with the outside of the 2X8. Any ideas?

Inset hinge?
I think Grass makes a inset version of a thick door hinge. If you use the hinge on a 3/4" thick door it will be recessed 1/4" It may only handle a 1" thick door and the gap around the door might be a bit wider than normal. So you might have to settle for less than the full depth of the 2x 8. I would make a mock up and play with the hinge mounting and cup drilling locations. The hinge only swings 95 degrees

The large Soss hinges are an option.

If the back of the door is to be flush with the inside of the 2x8 cabinet stile then blind panel hinges (eg Grass 3303 VZ & G3/ RZ 4.3 mounts) should do the trick provided the door is less than 3/4" thick.
