I’m new to woodworking so this is probably a dumb question. I am building a small jewelry box and want to attach the lid with barrel hinges, however, when they are placed in the holes so that the lid will open, there is a rather large gap between the lid and base when it’s closed. It sort of looks like I’ll need to make a mortise between the hole and the back of the box for the lid to sit flush and still open but I don’t want to start doing that without being sure. I don’t know if this is making a lot of sense or not, but if anyone can understand this I would appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks, Ken

Barrel Hinges should lie flush on both carcase and lid and should not leave any gap when the lid is closed. Email me for any further information

if the barrel hinge you are using is the 6mm type solid brass then you will need to add a chamfer to both the carcase and the lid. The barrel hinge I was refering to wwas 10mm in diameter and there should be no problem with them
I'm wondering if my terminology is right for the type of hinge I am trying to use. It's round with a 90* joint near the center. I was thinking a barrel hinge might be a pivot pin for the lid perhaps ... I may have got this all confused. I suppose we should be sure we're talking about the same thing ...
Thanks for the help ... Ken
Where did you buy them? Could you post a URL for a catalog or a picture of what you've got?
Actually when looking up what I have they are called pin hinges. Here's the URL where I got them:

Sorry for the confusion ... and looking at the page I can clearly see the chamfer so the question was my lack of observation in the first place. Sigh. Thanks everyone ...
Ken
