Hello, I am building a jig that requires the use of toggle clamps. I know it’s a silly question but I am wondering whether there is a “best way” to install them. Just screw them in the wood? I screwed them in MDF and the result was negative because the pulling action of the toggle clamps caused the MDF to split right where the screws ended. Maybe it is just a matter of using the right wood for support?
Thanks Enrico

MDF & Toggles
Enrico,
You're right. MDF just doesn't have the holding power for that kind of stress. You could use loger screws, with deeper threads, but you're better off using a good plywood. Generally, I like Baltic Birch ply for jigs that have Destaco clamps, although any good ply will work. And use screws with deep threads, and ones that are as long as possible.
Hope this helps

Drill & tap, 7/8" x 1"
Drill & tap, 7/8" x 1" centers (for destacco 225-U) no surprises. ( http://patwarner.com/images/router-X-cut-jig.jpg ).
Holes just big enough for 1/4-20 cap screws.
Thanks, but if possible, I would like Greg's advice better. I think it would be easier to install. I thank both of you for replying. Enrico
