With so many very realistic gaming programs around, I am surprised that an enterprising programmer/woodworker has not come up with programs which allow the user to learn by trial and error which techniques work. Thus in finishing one could be invited to apply various coatings and discover which were applicable, or by virtual planing learn how to obtain results in difficult circumstances. In this manner a degree of knowledge and confidence might be gained before moving on to the real thing and money saved from not buying inappropiate tools.
( Heaven help me, I am just trying to digest a book DOS for Dummies).

Virtual woodworking and finishing...that will be good for the computer and software companies, but not so good for the companies and individuals building tools and selling materials.
The wives and girl friends will appreciated the dust free environment, but woodworking will lose.
I can't believe I am actually responding to the idea you put forth. You are the devil in disguise today. :-) JL
Not so my friend, just consider the situation from the pro side whereby the client and not the maker might be asked to make decisions based upon v.r. presentations and then be charged for those presentations on top of the work and profit margin elements. Once assembled, such advance configuring would be used repeatedly and charged for as necessary work.
The amateur will tell his or her partner ( note I am p.c.) that research before desired creation will avoid the mistakes made last time, and thus allow breathing space for essentials such as ball games and nights out pending receipt of the DVD.
Mufti, indulging in mummery.
...and that DVD is now shipping the end of March, if they do not change their minds again. JL
PS Once you master DOS, drop me a line and we can work on the VR program. I should start preparing because I will surely have to learn some computer languages I don't even know exist. I already know how to turn on the machine and log on to Knots...it is a start.
