howdy all.
quick question. my bed is sagging and i grabbed some leftover mdf from a garage project and stuck it between the mattress and the box spring after putting it in a plastic bag.
does the glue holding it together have any formaldehyde or other toxic stuff in it? in other words, am i poisoning myself in my sleep?
thanx

DrRR,
Most MDF is a composite of wood fiber and urea formaldehyde adhesive that's been subjected to heat and pressure.
I cannot comment on the extent to which it continues to outgas after manufacture, but have heard that there are some individuals who claim to be sensitive to these kinds of chemical compounds in the quantities encountered in a typical residence or office.
It is doubtful that an MDF panel will retain sufficient rigidity to support your sagging mattress (it'll conform to the sag after a relatively short period of time), because it has very little strength in that direction.
Good luck,

I really don' t think you should worry to much about off gasing. MDF is used every where, the only time that it is dangerous is when sanded and inhaled. Other than that you are OK.
