Italian bandsaw motor replacement question
I have a Meber p-400 from 2004–I believe the Laguna equivalent is the LT-16. While working at the shop late last night the motor burnt out, which was surprising since I was only cutting 3/4″ stock. It is, or I should say, was a 2.5hp, 220V single phase motor. Based on everything I’ve every read or heard about Laguna’s used-car-salesman like customer service, I’d rather not even bother talking to them. Any ideas on motor replacement? It seems that Laguna now uses Baldor motors; does anyone know which specic Baldor motor model #? thanks, Mark

The Baldor site lists 2hp and 3hp single-phase motors, but no 2.5s:

You should be able to find closely-matching specs otherwise, though.
I have an Italian Laguna (ACM)
Check the capacitor in the power box first. Mine was burnt. And Laguna had a few on the shelf. $50.00
mine is the laguna tools 16 italian too made by mebo i think is the LT16-SEC anyway... my motor started to overheat today after 1 hour of continious use. I check and start smelling like burned plastic, touched the motor and super hot, then decided to open the little black box on top of the motor and had a huge white italian capacitor that had this specs:
16.10.61
60uF +- 5%b
450V ....
and smelled the capacitor and that was the smell I was smelling burning. the bandsaw still works, I just stopped using it until the motor cools down. Do you think is the motor or the capacitor? does it just need a new capacitor? DO I have to contact Mebo or Laguna Tools?
Thanks for the help! I hope is not the motor.
Adam
I'd contact Laguna customer service, particularly if the saw is still under warrantee. Although you can "work around" the problem by shortening the duration of work, you shouldn't need to do that.
