I recently purchased a panel raiser made by J. Jannsen. I cannot locate anything on this maker (my latest edition of Pollaks’ American Wooden Planes book is 1988). Can you point me to a source to find out more about this maker?

I searched Google for several combinations of terms using J. Janssen, plane, wood, etc.. and I got no helpful results, which leads me to believe that it's not a new tool and it's not a well-known maker of antique tools.
In researching the panel-raising plane, they seemed to be most prevalent in the late 18th century to early 19th century, and come in two distinct styles. One style is shaped like a traditional bench plane with a flat sole and an iron set at an angle. The other is like a traditional molding plane, which has a profile-shaped sole and an iron to match.
Sorry we can't be of more service. You might try contacting some antique hand tool experts like the folks at Fine Tool Journal, online at http://www.finetoolj.com.
