Hi,
I call’m jam screws. There may be a better name. I have an old jointer that is not made any more. Some of the “jam screws” that hold the knives into the cutterhead have the heads rounded off and they are hard to get a grip on. The threads are common 1/4″ 28 tpi, but the hex heads, rather than the typical 1/2″, are 5/16″ from flat to flat. I have checked various hardware and machine tool suppliers and the best I can do is buy the standard screw and have a machine shop mill the heads down to 5/16″ (they have to be that size to fit). Does anyone have an idea where I might purchase some of these screws ready made?
Thanks,
Bill Y.
