Hi All,
I have been offered a group of James Swan socket chisels. I have a set of Stanley Everlasting and a partial set of Stanley 720s, all vintage. The JS chisels are of similar length to the 720s. What can you tell me about edge holding on the JS steel vs the Stanleys?

From my limited experience with both, I would put the Swan as superior to Stanley. If the Swans need to be flattened, etc, and your Stanley's are all tuned up, I probably wouldn't bother switching.
Swan made good stuff.
