Can old polyurathane or varnish that are very very slow too dry be brought back to life by adding japan drier?

I wouldn't try it. New varnish is cheap compared to the time it takes to clean off a finish that doesn't cure.

Or the time to remove a finish that cures brittle and alligators. Either way, fresh varnish is the only way to go.
