Has any one seen the Japanese chisels for sale in the Grizzly catalog. You can get 10 chisels for just $129. This seems to cheap for quality chisels. Has any one bought them, and if so please tell me what you think of them. I am thinking of buying them butt would like to know a little more about them.

My sister bought them for me as a christmas present several years back. They're o.k., very utilitarian, they don't stay sharp very long, but are decent. They're not your final set of chisels, but a set to beat around with and not hack up your good ones.

Hey Jeff, do you think there better than my marpels blue chip chisels.
Wally
It's a toss-up. I don't like the handles on marples. The Japanese chisels have red-oak handles and are hooped, & feel better in my hands.

I have set and if you sharpen them well they work just fine, and I havent noticed them not holding an edge, the hardest part is setting the handles in the collars on top,be sure to set the handles first before you sharpen so you don't undo what you did in the first place.
hey Lenny, do you think they would be better than my marpels blue chip chisels.
I'd say about the same in quality,I have both and use them interchangably, the only thing I didnt like was pounding over the hoops to flare the tops but ya gotta do it or they will come off. Like I stated I have had no problems with the edges getting dull quicker than any of the other chisels I have,I will say I don't care for the Two Cherries, gave them away to a friend.
