While we are on the subject of hand-planes, I’ve got another question; Does anybody out there have the details on how to make the “jappaning” finish used on the old planes. I have several sitting on the shelve that could use a refinish job.
Before somebody starts hooting about “correct” finishes, these are daily use #3,4 & 5 size Stanleys, not what I consider collectors items.
Thanx guys

Ray,
One of the regular posters here -- Mike-in-Katy- has a business renivating old Stanleys. His prices are probably better than you you could do it yourself. I can vouch for his work.
Good luck,
Dan
I read it is baked on black varnish.
