I have an opportunity to get a great deal on a very slightly used Jet closed stand 15″ planer, model JWP-15CS. It has a 3 HP, 220V single phase motor.
Does anyone have experience with this model?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike50,
I have the same model and am very pleased with it. I did a lot of research before I bought it and in almost all of the reviews I read it was top rated,
The only fault I found with it was mentioned in the reviews . The chipper exhaust is bent to the side and they said it may cause some chips or splinters to be crushed into the board you are planing. I forget the tech word they used to describe these small indentations. To cure this problem the reviewers suggested buying a straight exhaust from Grizzly and the problem would be solved.
I bought a straight exhaust but when I examined the original exhaust I found the problem to be on the inside of the exhaust and was not caused by the exhaust being directed to the side. If you do buy the machine, feel inside the exhaust,if it's the original, and you'll find that the two pieces that make up the exhaust are not smoothly joined and this is the cause of all of the material not being exhausted.
I bought some liquid solder and smoothed out the joint so material wouldn't be impeded when exhausted. It's worked great for me the last two years and I've had not zits or dents or whatever it is they call them. Plus, I did like the exhaust inclined to the side rather than straight ahead.
No anyone who wants to buy a Grizzl straight-ahead exhaust ? I've got a spare!
Go with the Jet. You'll be happy you did especially if you're getting it for a good price.

Mike,
I've had mine since December and really love it. I haven't had a problem with the dust chute but the comment about smoothness on the inside has me curious. I think I'm going to take the chute off and check it out. I'm a real nut about DC efficiency and so I want it to be as good as possible. The planer is powerful and easy to adjust. You really need a good DC with this one. It can generate a lot of chips.
