Jet 15″ Planer Knife Setting Gauge
I recently picked up a used 15″ Jet Planer (Model JWP-15CSW). The Operators manual gives me the impression that the gauge used for setting the knifes is somehow attached to the machine (when not in use), but does not show where. In addition, the parts diagram lists the part number for the gauge, but does not show a picture, so I don’t know what I am looking for. I’m not seeing a gauge anywhere and I am wondering if the machine just doesn’t have one, or if I am just not seeing it, perhaps because I don’t know where to look and I don’t know what it looks like anyway.
If someone reading this could tell me where the gauge is normally placed when not in use, or if you happen to have a picture of one I would appreciate it. I can order a new one, but hate to waste the money if not necessary.
Thanks,
Jerry

The machine comes with the knife setting gauge when new, but there is no place where it attaches for storage. You probably don't have it, and should purchase it.
Jerry,
What you are looking for is a metal bar about 3/8" in diameter and 14" long with two small cast foot assemblies loosely attached to the outer ends. You can see one here:

Whoever sold you the machine still has it in a drawer somewhere. There isn't any place on the machine where it would be stored.

John,Thanks for the info and the reference to the picture in the Grizzly manual. That was especially helpful - the Jet manual is not nearly so detailed. Do the Jet and the Grizzly planers share components like knives, cutterheads, etc.?I suspect you're right about the original knife setting tool being in a drawer somewhere, but the seller was unable to locate it.Jerry
There are no guarantees, but most of these Asian machines all seem to have come out of one factory with only cosmetic differences, so parts are often interchangeable. The knives are typically just simple steel strips and are available from numerous sources including local sharpening services.John W.
I have a 15" Jet planer and the blade setting jig came with the planer as a separate item. It is NOT!!! stored on or a part of the planer itself.
