I recently changed the belt on the 1hp 220v motor to the link construction. The machine runs smoothly, without vibration (it had a little vibration from the supplied OE belt). However, on startup I get an annoying clickety-clack from the motor. That lasts not a second and the machine sounds fine thereafter. I would like to know what the origin of the sound might be.

Probably the centrifugal switch that throws out the starter windings.
Your Jet 6" jointer that has a 220V motor???

Could be a loose pulley.
