I've had one for about three years and I have nothing negative to report. Works very well and the sanding sleeves are fairly easy to find. I have never seen the General but they make excellent products and I would think you could not go wrong with either one.
Hey Ron -I am in the market myself. I read in a review that dust collection, though the only negative reported for this machine, was at best an afterthought. Have you found this to be the case?
I use a Shop Vac Attached to the port and it work ok. Not great but ok. A dusk mask is probably a good idea when using this machine.
I am very satisfied with my Delta. Good selection of "tubes" and very good dust collection when hooked to a shop vac.

The Jet sander is Sweet, Very heavy and stable compaired to the Delta Boss which is on the light side. Lots of cast iron on the Jet and has a metal base, Delta has cast top but a plastic case on it's base. Sorry I can't comment on the General sabder. But from what I've seen The Jet and General Int. 6" jointers are Basically identical except for the paint jobs and bases so take it from there.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

I bought one of these a year or two ago after reading excellent customer reviews at Amazon. I returned a Rigid oscilating sander to Home Depot which also had a belt sander on the same unit--all for only $199. Great idea, but it wasn't made for precision work--aluminum table instead of cast iron, plastic base, etc. Put the refund towards the Jet. At the time, with free shipping and an Amazon instant rebate, the Jet only cost $125 more then the Rigid. When I lifted the unit out of the box the difference was amazing. So much cast iron and heavy metal compared to the plastic and aluminum of the Rigid. A serious piece of precision machinery. Been very happy with the purchase. If budget considerations permit, I'd suggest also ordering the extra cost 3 inch spindle.
