I’m just getting started in WW and have reached the point where I’m ready for a decent DC system. I have been talking to Oneida but my shop is in a temporary location and I’m not sure I need that level of DC just now. So I was looking into the Jet cannister DC system and it seems like that would do the trick for me for now and it’s about half the price. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Oneida but does anyone have any experience with the Jet system? Does anyone know what size the input fitting might be?
Thanks,
Ken

It has a standard 4" fitting I believe. Brian just got one, but hasn't fired it up yet. I've been following feedback on this machine, and it's tops on my list for DCs -- you might want to consider getting the 2HP, rather than the 1.5HP.
Hope you get some first-hand feedback in this thread.

I did find a bit more info on the net last night after posting this question. Yes, it is a 4" fitting and I agree that the 2 hp model makes more sense for only $50 more. It seems to be backordered and there isn't much on the net about it at all so I am hoping someone here has some experience with it .. if not I am somwhat inclined to take the plunge and do some beta testing of my own.
Ken
Yep, it's been "backordered" forever, which may be an indication of how good it is, or maybe just how cool it looks, LOL. I'd be willing to be a beta tester too, but they'd have to pay me. Oh well........forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Do you happen to know the dimensions of the Jet cannister DC that your friend bought? I can't locate the information on the net - ball park guess is good enough. My shop space is rather limited (understatement!) and it would be a big help to know what impact it will have on my minimal real estate. It's on wheels but it still takes up space ...
Thanks,Ken
He is one of our Knotheads, Brian. I'll shoot him an email with a link to this thread, and I'm sure he'll respond. I have a vague idea of the height and circumference of the canister, but no idea of the footprint, which is really the crucial dimension.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
The footprint is the same as the DC 11/1200, which should be published. It is approximately 18X30 and I think the canister will cause it to be slightly wider than the 18, as it appears to overhang the base. In my small shop it eats up space but the reduction in dust makes it worthwhile to me.
Hi SparrowHawk, Jamie zipped me a line regarding your question about the JET DC dimensions. They are 37"L x 28"W x 71-1/8"H. Comes with a 4" and 6" diameter hose connections (I will be reducing the 6" down to 5" pipe).
I don't know for sure but I wouldn't imagine the 2HP would have a larger footprint. I got the 1-1/2 because I think that's all I am really ever going to need. May have been smarter to go with the 2HP, who knows.
Not to open a can of worms here, but from the wiring schematic, it looks pretty simple to convert to 230V too.
Oh, and check out International tool corp for a price. I paid 418.00 delivered to my door. (My first shop equipment delivered on a pallet!)
Let me know if you need anymore specs. Brian
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the specs. I decided to give it a try and ordered the 2 HP from Amazon. I figured it will be all I'll ever need and allow room for growth. Wiring isn't going to open a can of worms with me - I was trained as an electronic technician. FG said you had not set it up yet ... all reports are pretty glowing so far so I expect we'll both be pleased.
Thanks for taking the time to answer ..Ken
