I bought this jig to go with my new Jet 13″ planer/moulder. The p/m cost me 1/2 price of $350 because I bought last years floor model. On this recent job I’ve run off 1500 ft. of custom moulding and needed to make 7 ellipses with the same profile for all the arched windows and transoms. I ordered the jig from Jet and paid $475. only to find out upon delivery(special order) that it is a 13×20 three qtr. inch piece of plastic with 3 lockable bearings!! It had to be about $15. worth of parts. After reading the instructions(one page with reversed drawings that show the wood being fed into the wrong side of the machine) I proceeded to take my glued up ellipses and feed them into the machine the right way only to have them jamb in the moulder every time. About 2 days of glue up labor and form work and $100 worth of material destroyed. I call Jet technical services the next day and tell them it’s a piece of junk that cost me more than the planer itself and after an hour on the phone with a rep they get back to me and say I’m right , it won’t make ellipses as advertised and I can return it if I’d like. It’s going back and good riddance. They claim it’s bought from some outside contractor and is not truelly a ‘Jet’ product. Bull
. Stop advertising it as an ellipse jig then!! The long and short of it is that my custom knife manufacturer is cannibalizing one from a Williams and Hussey to fit my machine for $660 and I shouldn’t have any difficulty now. I just needed to vent and give a heads up to anyone else before they end up in the same bind I did.

The Williams and Hussey machine is the ticket for making curved molding. Saw it at a trade show. Probably worth the dough if you make curved molding often. Pretty neat machine.

George, if its any consulation, it looks like Jet has pulled it from their list of accessories. It still shows on the website if you look at the planner itself but is not listed in any of the accessory areas. On the bright side, at least Jet didn't argue much with you about the problem. I would bet that if you were to push a little harder they might offer you something for your losses. I've been very impressed with the service I get from them. Its too bad something like this has happened.
