Hi all. Just sending out a warning for buyers to avoid the Jet JDP 17 drill press. The circuit board for the entire lighting system has a design flaw and is being re engineered because of recurrent failures. The LED indicator light, work light and laser guides are all controlled by this board.
The purchase date of my machine was Nov 3 2022
I plugged my machine in and it worked for 5 min before it quit. The technician said he will send me a new board when it becomes available. This I am sure will be when pigs begin to sprout wings

You may be entirely correct, but did the Jet technician actually say that they are redesigning this PCB, or could you have just received a faulty unit? Are they sending you another one, or they asking you to wait until the new design is finished, prototypes are built and tested, and units are manufactured before sending you one?
FYI - I too have this problem. I spoke w Jet Tech service on October 12 and again on November 4 and received two emails since then. Still no circuit board as of Jan 19.
Thanks for posting this info.
I spent 35 years in the electronics industry. Board redesigns can take time. The fix is usually easy to locate and often easy to fix. The testing can be time consuming. Surprises can surface during the testing that requires another design iteration. Then, once they have confirmed the design can be adopted, manufacturing instructions must be prepared, manuals must be updated, manufacturing partners must be given new bills of materials. Parts must be ordered. Parts must be manufactured and shipped (not easy these days). Then boards must be manufactured and tested and shipped. Then, they must go to distribution point where they are either sent directly to those waiting for replacement boards or to retailers who will send out to customers right away.
I’ve had pretty good luck with Jet service over the years. I’m not defending them but I understand why design changes can take much longer than one would think. Hopefully the drill presses can still be used if with less features than you expected…for now anyway. Good luck.
I use an old Delta/Milwaukee drill press. Works just fine. Good luck on the new stuff. All my tools are old, just ask my wife!
Ouch! I spoke with Jet Tech Support this morning. They are now saying that the redesigned circuit boards are scheduled for shipment on May 1 and those of us with this problem ought to get new boards by "end of May."
I lived without laser cross hairs before and will again. But this is still a bummer.
Just received the replacement part after almost a year. No instructions, just the parts. I was told they had to redesign the board. To expect your customer to do this level of repair is ridiculous in my opinion. First drill press for me, and first Jet product I’ve bought. I’ll never buy another product from Jet!
Same here. I just got something in the mail after waiting 6 months. And it doesn't look anything like what is in the drill now. The color of the wires doesn't even match. I will call them tomorrow
I, too, received my replacement circuit board two days ago. And as others have said, there were no instructions included.
I figured that I could work my way through it, based on my understanding of the exploded diagram in the original manual. Alas, when I finally got to the end, there was a brown wire and a blue wire replacing a white wire and a black wire on the original. At that point I had to cry uncle and call tech services. As always, they were very helpful and even volunteered to email me very good replacement instructions with pictures! duh. I wish they would’ve included that with the original shipment of the new circuit board.
Overall, it was not too difficult …a task most any handyman could do.
Please post the intructions here to help any that find this thread in the future.
Hope this works. JPW sent file as spreadsheet. It was a royal pain to find a way to convert file into a size that meets FWW 3 MB limit.
It worked, I could download the file.
Update: The same issue (no laser or light) happened after the replacement part was installed for about 4 months. I’ll be calling Jet again to see what they suggest.
I have the same problem. I’ve had it on the wall for a year and haven’t put it in today. I posted a video on my YouTube channel. That will help check it out on the Florida Bearded WoodWorker on YouTube. Here’s a link.
