Jet JJP-12 Arrives today…..Tomorrow……The next day?
After doing some research on the various woodworking sites and asking some questions, I decided to replace my now sold Inca 510 with a Jet JJP-12. There wasn’t much information out there in the way of reviews or advice from users, but what little I did find was generally positive, so I went for it. I considered a Grizzly 8″ jointer and 15″ planer for about the same price but really did not have the space. The Grizzly 12″ combo machine was ruled out because of the “pork chop’ style guard and the fact that the fence had to be removed and placed somewhere during planer operations. The others from, Laguna, Mini Max, and Hammer were ruled out for similar reasons, but mostly price. Two things I wanted to change from the Inca were the very short tables and the fact that you had to remove and then find a place to store the out feed table for planer operations; on the Jet machine the tables are about two and a half times longer than the Inca and the change over doesn’t require removing anything, just unlock and raise the tables. Dust collection hood is built-in. The Jet is also two inches wider than the Inca.
I will document and report how things go with the new machine in hopes my information will be beneficial to others looking at an alternative to the traditional separate jointer and planer machines.
The machine was ordered from CPO Jet on Sunday March 21st and it will be delivered at around 1:00 PM this afternoon. That’s pretty good and in keeping with CPOs stated delivery time. Price was on par with all other suppliers, but CPO had free shipping and no tax charge. So far, so good. I’ll keep you posted.

Reports of my arrival have been greatly exageratted!
And so, the saga of the shipping fiasco begins. The transport company for this task is Estes-Express. Last night, at about 9:00 PM, I received tracking information from CPO Jet indicating that the machine had shipped. I followed the included link and found that the scheduled delivery was for today. CPO Jet had indicated that I would receive a call from the transport company prior to them leaving the terminal; that call never came. This morning I called the terminal in Albany and confirmed that, in fact, the machine was on a truck and headed to TupperLake. With this news, I took the day off and borrowed a neat little fork lift from a friend; I was ready. The Estes terminal manager told me on the phone this morning that the truck should arrive at around 1:00PM. When 3:45 PMrolled around I decided to give the terminal a call. I was informed that the truck with the lift gate had broken (lift gate stuck open) and that It had been turned around to return to the terminal:0 Estes had my number but never called to tell me of the problem; had I not called them, I may have been sitting here until who knows when. Anyway, not CPO Jet's fault, Estes fault. Now Estes-Express tells me it will arrive tomorrow. Another day shot. Fortunately, my buddy said I could keep the cool little fork lift for another day.

Estes screws up again.
It's 7:18 AM and I just got off of the phone with Estes regarding the second attempt to deliver the machine to me, I called them, they did not and have never made any attempts to call me. I called to confirm what I was told on the phone yesterday, that the machine would be delivered today. When I got the Estes terminal on the phone I was promptly and mater of fact told that they do not make deliveries to this area on Fridays. When I asked why they told me yesterday, after the truck break down, that it would be delivered today they could not give a satisfactory answer. I explained that I had taken another day off and held on to the lift, they basically said oh well! Now I am getting angry! I called the Estes corporate offices and explained the situation, they placed me on hold to contact the terminal, upon returning to the line the customer service representative gave me the same line; we are sorry we never called and we are sorry we told you we could make it today but we can't make it today......bla....bla...bla.. I insisted on speaking to the next person up the chain of command. They took my phone number and said someone would call me. After a little while, I received a call from one higher on the totem pole, she explained that after a chat with the terminal manager they actually had three options for me (funny, prior to this my only option was take another day off and wait until Tuesday).
After listening to the options, one of which was they would put it on a pickup truck and get it here today, but no lift gate, we agreed that they would send it on a truck with a lift gate on Saturday. Soooo.... that’s where it stands.
To be continued.......
The cool little lift is still here:)
