Hi
i have a jet jointer that I can’t figure out why when I want to joint one edge of a board as I put the board through the knives it seems to stutter and I can’t get a smooth cut. I followed the adjustments correctly in the manual. Any help appreciated tks

model is JJ-6CSX

It might be dull knives causing the problem.

Check that one of the knives is not mounted backwards. Easy mistake to make.
Ya I know the knives are not backwards for sure they are the oringinal ones. It’s like when u push the board through it stops and gos not smooth and then u can feel where there are bumps from not going through smoothly
Do you think a coat of wax on the jointer table and the fence might help?
I'd check them anyway... and then the height of the outfeed table. If the board stops the outfeed might be too high. Post the model # of your jointer, someone with the same one may chime in to help. I do not have a Jet.
The outfeed table is the same height as the blades. That is what the manual said initially setting it up I also did put wax on the table and fence
Since you made all the adjustments correctly, I would look at the drive belt tension, maybe it slips under load giving you fewer cuts per inches and requiring more effort to push the wood.
Tks I will check the belt tension
You mentioned in post #3 that these are the original knives that came with the machine. Have they ever been sharpened? How long have you had the jointer?
Mike
I have not had them sharpened. That may be my next process
New issue - need help - coplanar feed tables - can’t get it right. Board ends up tapered 1/8” over 4” width. Have tried to shim the dovetail sliders. I see about 3/32” of daylight difference on inboard side by fence when outboard side is flush. (When both indeed and out feed tables lines up with straight edge. Any thoughts? Jet 6HHDX helical heads. Can helical spindle be off camber? Funny thing is, despite inboard side of feed tables not lining up flush, the finished planed board tapers to inside (high side???). Confused.
