Anyone that can help. I am about to drop my shop savings on the purchase of a JET JTAS-10XL-1W 1999 Anniversary saw. I am actually not sure ’99 is the year it may be ’97. Needless to say, the saw is over 300 miles away, but the guy selling it is making a trip up near my city and offered to drop it off at my doorstep. He says the saw is 3HP, Left Tilt, has an Xacta Fence system, and the extension table. He was asking $1050, but just recently lowered his price to $800 + delivery is free. I am going to get some pictures of it tonight. I have researched for hours trying to find the exact Jet Model, age, etc. but there are so many JTAS-10XL models and years that I dont’ know where to begin. The other problem is if he brings this thing up, I am going to feel very obligated to purchase it, even though I haven’t tested it for table saw flatness, bearings anything. So the question, Is $800 dollars worth making a person drive 300 miles to bring me a saw without me being able to test it first? Also does anyone know potential problems that these JETs have suffered from over the years?
Thanks,
Will Robins

It looks like a lot of motor failures because the the motor is not TEFC.

This is a basic decent quality Taiwan cabinet saw. Age is almost new--these saws generally last for a long time. There may be many, many models, but the guts are all essentially identical, what differs is paint and accessories. The most recent models may have a riving knife that the older models don't.
The current specifications call out TEFC for the motor. I suspect that it has long had such a motor. Amazon customer reviews are generally all over the lot. The one I saw that complained most about the motor not being TEFC, was making the same complaint about Powermatic and Delta.
