I am installing a new kitchen set, and cabinets do not have predrilled holes for handles which gives me the flexibility to place them where I want. Can anyone suggest the most efficient way to predrill the holes or is there any jig to make the work neat

Decide where you want the knobs/handles to go, and make a jig out of 1/4" MDF with blocks that butt against the door/drawer. Drill a hole(s) in the MDF, hold it against the door, punch it with an awl, hold a backer block against the back of the door to prevent tear-out, and drill the hole.
