Jig for cutting 8inx8in squares
Hi all! I’m trying to (start taking my woodworking seriously) make a jig that makes 8in by 8in squares. The lumber would likely be boards if 36ish x 9ish x 3/4ish walnut, but that’s flexible.
Ive messed around with using a router w/ a template and also a few table saw ideas.
Any input or suggestions are welcome! Thanks

Rip the wood on the tablesaw 8 inches wide and place a stopper at 8 inches on the miter or radial arm saw to cross cut.
Crosscut sled on a tablesaw. Clamp a stop at 8 inches, cut the length first, turn block and cut the width. Same setting.
Unless you're framing a house, the tablesaw is designed to cut well prepared stock. If your walnut is straight from the lumber yard and you want to prepare blanks to cut parts from I would:
- Joint one face flat
- Plane the other side parallel
- Joint one edge flat
- Rip to width
- Crosscut to length
If you have stock that is already suitable to be cut on the tablesaw without binding, burning or kickback, simply rip to width and crosscut to length.
A stop block on your fence will provide consistency. A stop on your miter gauge (if the boards are not overly long) can do the same.
Thanks fellas! GeeDubBee—Awesome. Picked up a miter sled from Rockler today and will get to it.
