Does anyone have plans for a jig or have a purchased jig that what cut the mortises for slats in louver blinds. I have an old house that needs some blind replacement. I have a slow way on doing the mortises but have wondered if there might be a better solution.

louvre blinds
Can't the people in Paris find anyone over there to make their blinds?

Isn't a half blind jig what you do after a bottle of scotch?
HEY BONES, I shudder'' to think your reply to anyone asking, "How do I make a Venitian blind? Ibelieve it was Shakespeare who said "Louv is blind" Steinmetz
I enjoyed the laughs, now if someone can help with a LOUVER blind, I would appreciate it.
Norm did some on his show a few years back. Check on his website and you may find his jig there.Andy"It seemed like a good idea at the time"
Bless!
There's a good tip on page 66 of FW on More Proven Shop Tips-Making Fixed-louver shutters.
Hope this lets you get your act together.
If by chance you mean shutters, then these made by Norm were nices. I watched the show. I have bough plans from him before and they are good.

Are the louvers related to the oeuvre in which you typically work, or is it an oeuvre all its own?
because I used to louver but it's all oeuvre now.

Funny...I was just complaining to my wife what an exorbitant amount of
money the shutter guy charges us.Nice to know that with a bit set and a couple of jigs I could do the
other 10 windows of my house.
Wow, they reslly do make me think I could do that. And the cost of the kit is nothing compared to a set of store-bought plantation shutters!
Anybody done this who can reply how much time was invested on the learning curve with their first set (jig-building, screw-ups, etc.)?
New Yankee Workshop. PBS, with Norm Abrams has an excellent video for making Plantation Shutters. Norm states that making PS requires three or four jigs and he would not invest the time or effort to make just one set. I ordered the DVD and plans from him after watching the show. Norm does use a power molder, which is out of my league at this time to make the louver slats. Check it out! http://www.newyankee.com
I agree it wouldn't be worth it to make just one set. I posed the question because I'm sure the first set is the rate-limiting step. After that it should just be cut and repeat. Norm's use of the molding machine is one of the things that puts me off of considering some of his projects from the get-go. Just not a tool I will consider a worthy investment for a home hobbyist like me.
Hi, please clarify "rate-limiting step"?
That which determines the length of the process.
Sorry, it's a chemistry term. Like when you do a complex lab project synthesizing (sp?) some substance. There's usually one essential step which takes the most time. You cannot speed up the process beyond the time necessary for that step.
