Jig plans for pencil-post bed tapers …
*
I am building the pencil-post bed from one of Norm Abrams books. He uses a jig on the tablesaw that he built to position the posts to cut the tapers on the upper and lower part of the posts. Does anyone have plans for constructing the jig used to make the posts for the bed?

See Chris Becksvoort's pencil-post bed article in FWW #76, pp. 32-37.
*I built that bed in FWW #76. In fact, I've built that design twice, one for me, one for my daughter. But I didn't exactly follow Christians method though. I tapered on the jointer and used my router table with a small jig to hold up the posts at the right angle to get the octagonal cross section.E-mail me if you'd like a more detailed explanation.
*I completed a pencil post bed recently in which I cut all the tapers and chamfers on the bandsaw using a jig I saw in FW no. 53, page 31. It's a very simple jig to make and it worked well.
*Hi Paul:Check out the plans in "Beds" by Jeff Miller, published by Taunton Press. It's available at Barnes and Noble or Amazon. It has plans for pencil post bed and also the jugs, using either/or bandsaw or table saw. I have seen all the other plans mentioned, and think these and the jugs are the best. Am going to try one when I finish the 19ft kayak Im about half way through. Good luck, don
