I have a B&D jig saw with a not very sharp blade. Can someone recommend good blades? Unfortunately, this is my version of a bandsaw. I’d like blades that will cut 1″ oak cleanly.
Thanks

I've read somewhere that Bosch makes the best jig saw blades.
I have no idea if that's true or not, but I'd love to hear some opinions from the experts...
The Bosch blades come in the 'tang' style(kind of an acorn tip- it's marked on the package) and the kind that has two small holes in the end. If the jig saw isn't too sloppy, you should be able to cut cleanly and straight, as long as the base is held/guided steadily. They have one called the Progressor that is outstanding. HD sells them, but you should be able to find them cheaper at other stores. At least you can go to HD to see what they offer and feel how much sharper they are than the general, run of the mill stuff. They tend to last pretty long for me, too.
"I cut this piece four times and it's still too short."
While Bosch blades really are the best (selection, performance, life) they are t-shank only.
Dewalt also makes some decent ones.
The older Dewalt jigsaw uses the screw secured blades (i think they're referred to as Universal), so Dewalt actually makes some good blades in this style.
Check out the Evil Empire (think Orange...) or any other big box retailer. Otherwise it's probably Vermont American or Craftsman.
Of course, if you rely on it so dearly, you could do yourself an enormous favour and buy a decent jigsaw.... but that wasn't the question you asked.
Cheers,
The older I get, the better I was....
I just recently was suggested to purchase a Bosch Progressor blade and have found them to excellent in cutting hardwoods clean and straight. They are the latest from Bosch who has always made excellent blades. aloha, mike
I like the Bosch blades too. Blades from Festool are considerably thicker and will give better results if you try to cut tight bends or thick stock. Don't know if they'll fit your jigsaw.
The Jigsaw you are using will not give you the quality of cut you are looking for. I have a Bosch, and what the others said is true. They make a great jigsaw, and they make graet blades.
After using my Bosch I realize that my old Craftsmen has more in common with a mini jackhammer, than a jigsaw. I keep it around though, because if anyone wants to borrow a jigsaw, thats the one they use.
Cheers. Walker1
I picked up the B&D as an impulse buy when checking out of Lowes. I realize it is not a very good machine but for now I have to make do with it. I'd rather save up for a bandsaw then buy another jig saw.
