just a note to all,
I was just in NYC for a few days and took the time to see the John Townsend exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum. Even if you’re not an 18th century furniture freak, it is definitely worthwhile to see. I’ve seen a lot of these pieces in photos, but standing in front of the real thing is something else! Very comprehensive collection, and lots of insights on the family influences, including Goddard and others. Recommended.

I know I really shouldn't feel this way, but it is often very disheartening for me to look at stuff like that. It is inspiring in many ways to see such masterpiecies, but I leave with the feeling that I'll never be that good.

I'll second that. Just saw it and it's excellent. The exhibit closes on the 25th though so not much time left.
